Social Media in all it’s forms has been a big part of my world over the last decade or so. Checking my Facebook timeline before even getting out of bed, rushing to read a Twitter notification, browsing my Instagram feed to see all the amazing places, […]
“Why?” Three letters which form possibly the most important word in our entire world. As well as being the favourite word for most infants it’s the reason behind virtually every discovery ever made. How many apples had fallen from trees before Darwin asked ‘Why?’, how […]
Tucked away in the north west of Ireland, Leitrim truly is the hidden gem of the country. Whether you’re in the towns of Carrick on Shannon, Ballinamore, Mohill, Drumshanbo or Manorhamilton the unspoilt landscapes, exhilarating experiences, historical haunts and fantastic festivals await visitors of all […]
It’s time for my 3rd weekly weigh-in of my Weight Loss Journey. Here’s how I Lost 14 lbs in 3 weeks and lets see how my juicing fast is affecting my body. I take a look at some of the daily facts and figures of […]
My weight loss journey continues towards the end of my third full week. This morning my nephew misread his emails and we found ourselves with loads of spare time this morning rather than driving to Galway at day break. We did head west later in […]
After struggling for a few days, a trip to the fruit and veg shop allowed me to restock my supplies and get back to full juicing capacity. Some technical issues meant I lost half of my video for the day, but I wasn’t in the […]
It’s amazing how one seemingly small decision can impact on much bigger issues further along the line. Not getting myself stocked up on fresh fruit and vegetables resulted in being pulled all over the place for rest of the day. I took my first steps […]
After my fortnightly doctor’s check up I spent the afternoon having fun, playing board games with my nephew at the juice bar, and hitting the cinema for an early showing of “Despicable Me 3”. Will have to wait a few days to get the actual […]
The last two weeks have flown by but my second weekly weigh-in has arrived, and I’m delighted with the progress to date. I take a proper look at the facts and figures of the juice diet so far as I almost hit the 300 lb […]
In order to increase my exercise, I took to the Shannon Blueway for a decent walk from my house along the banks of the Lough Allen Canal almost to Drumshanbo. With the announcement of a government grant to extend the scheme into Drumshanbo and in […]
Finding myself back in Galway I took the opportunity to meet a kindred spirit in the shape of Dean McMenamin, another person who had cycled around the world over four years from 2013. Recently relocated from his native Monaghan to the City of the Tribes […]
A short look at my Saturday, meeting a friend for a walk and lunch was followed by going to a football game and a trip to the cinema to see Dunkirk. In between I managed to get my daily quota of fruit and veg. Mostly […]
It’s a very exciting week for the Breifne Earley Show as I’m joined by an old friend, TV Presenter & Actor Laura Whitmore (MTV, I’m A Celeb, Strictly Come Dancing), to talk about her eclectic career in a rare long form interview.
Laura talks about her life and career and why treading the boards as Cleo Morey in the stage version Peter James’ Not Dead Enough isn’t as much of a career shift as it seems, growing up in Bray, Co. Wicklow and going to drama lessons to survive being shy and finding her calling there.
Laura discusses her big break on MTV through winning “Pick Me MTV” and finding herself still working for them almost a decade after the year’s contract expired. Laura talks about how her journalism degree and professional experience in radio was the key to taking that opportunity with both hands.
Laura also shares her experience of losing control as part of “Strictly”, dealing with the tabloid media around her personal life, taking part in the bushtucker trials on “I’m A Celebrity”, how real life doesn’t really compare with social media and how important it is not to give away all of yourself and to protect yourself and your privacy.
Laura explains how nice it is to have songs written about you, how obvious it is that people assume she’s had a relationship with every man she’s pictured with or linked to, being star struck by Gay Byrne and Glen Hansard while taking Coldplay and P Diddy in her stride, learning by doing on stage with her leading man Shane Ritchie and the pressures of the business side of the theatre and being responsible for putting bums on seats and her love of murder mysteries including her fascination with Murder She Wrote.
Laura also reveals to Breifne about meeting the nicest people on the street who continue to wish her well with “Aren’t you doing great?”, dealing with people’s preconceptions about who she is, what’s next for her and whether she’d be interested in progressing her acting chops into movies or busting out her singing voice.
